“I can lie in the sun all day.”

Happy New Year! I think!

Wow. I can’t believe it is January 2nd already. I slept right through yesterday. At least most of it. New Year’s Eve has to be my least favorite holiday, right up there with the 4th of July. The reason for this is I am terrified of loud noises. I can sort of handle a single loud bank or quick series of booms, but holiday fireworks are bad news.

This past Saturday night was frightful. We knew it was midnight in New York as the first full round of booms and bangs went off around nine o’clock, when I tried to crawl inside one of the back rooms to find a dark corner. Johnnie grabbed me and closed all the bedroom and bathroom doors and wrapped me in a blanket, nice and tight.

The boom stopped and I started to relax, the tight blanket felt good. After a short bit though, another series of booms and I jumped out from the blanket and headed toward the back rooms only to be met by closed doors. The booms continued and I looked up at Johnnie for help, so he picked me up and sat me next to him on the couch and placed a blanket over me. More booms and I jumped again running around.

Johnnie built a little fort with blankets and pillows under the table and slipped me in facing him. This worked for a while, but at each hour, the fireworks began anew. Finally at midnight the last round began and lasted at least a while as I drove Johnnie nuts, he just wanted to get some sleep and I was up until the wee hours, well after the last boom or bang. I don’t know. I didn’t see the sun come up and Johnnie didn’t move until late when I got up for food and two short walks. Anyway, I am so glad the New Year has begun and we can start being quiet again. Happy 2017!
