“I can lie in the sun all day.”

Tick Tock!

It’s that time of year again. The grass is getting tall and the squirrel population is expanding. Lot’s of little ones to chase. Something for you humans to think about are ticks. I know that I get this liquid applied to my back to prevent fleas, ticks, and heartworm. Brrr. Thinking about heartworm gives me the willies.

At this time of year, ticks are hanging out in the grass, and I mean they are literally hanging on the ends of the long grass, right where you or I might brush them. Now, most humans don’t walk into the grass as they prefer to stay on the main trail. I like to run down the small narrow trails looking for a snack or run across a field chasing something furry like a squirrel.

This is where ticks wait like a cat, ever so patient they sit until I pass by where one or more jumps onto my back and crawls down through my hair to the skin. My monthly treatment keeps them from biting in, so the tick moves about along my body until finding a place to find new prey. This is often when I am lying on the furniture watching Johnnie in the kitchen. Since the tick is no longer interested in me, it crawls high on the furniture waiting for Johnnie to take a seat.

Next thing you know, the tick is crawling up Johnnie’s neck. He senses it and grabs it between his finger before flushing it down the toilet. Whew, that as a close one. Johnnie sets out a white towel and gives me a good brushing.
